YO3DSG: radio, curiosity and people
Amateur radio is my hobby. Technology, projects and conversations that do not always end when the coffee does.
YO3DSG is my ham callsign. For me, amateur radio is a hobby in which I had many projects. Not an extension of the work schedule and not a collection of equipment that I have to justify economically.
I like the question from which many technical experiments start: is it possible? Sometimes you want to understand a limitation. Sometimes you are interested in how you connect two things that, separately, work very well. Until you reach an answer, you already have several reasons to read, ask and try.
Discussions about DMR, BrandMeister or analog links are part of the hobby. The other is the people. Cafe Gratis Ham Radio Club, Simpo 2016, meetings among radio amateurs: the technique brings us to the same place, but the conversation rarely stays strictly about the equipment. Which, honestly, seems very good to me.
A hobby allows me to follow a curiosity without immediately asking for a salable result. I can be interested in a solution because I want to understand it. I can leave something unfinished until I have time. I don't have to invent a delivery term to sound serious.
This does not mean that the details do not matter. They make the construction part interesting. But there is a difference between the satisfaction of understanding something and the obligation to turn each experiment into a demonstration for others.
And coffee finds its place here too. We have call signs for the radio part. For the discussion that goes on after, usually nothing more is needed.
